Now that you have registered for the upcoming NRA course, “Personal Protection in The Home”, what do you need to know before course day? This course is so much more than learning to handle a firearm. We believe that you will find the information and training beneficial to your safety for the rest of your life! Below are some of the details related to the course, please read carefully and contact us if you have any questions.
Time: Saturday, 8-5PM
Classroom Location: 7589 Wisteria Way, Brighton, MI (unless otherwise listed)
Shooting Range Location:
Private Outdoor Range
Plan to arrive for class 15 minutes early so that we can start promptly.
Wear clothing that is comfortable; however, do NOT wear shorts or V-neck shirts.
Items to bring:
Pistol – preferably 9mm - .22 will be acceptable but not recommended. Extra magazines (if you have them) 150 rounds of ammunition suitable for the firearm that you bring. Baseball cap Safety glasses Ear protection – you can find most of these items at a local sports store such as Dicks or Cabela’s
DO NOT bring ammunition into class; you will only remove this from your vehicle when we arrive at the shooting range.
If you have had no experience with a firearm, I will schedule a 45-minute session at the range for 45.00 prior to our scheduled class. This is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The NRA suggests that you are familiar with handling and safety of a firearm before taking the course. For your safety and the safety of others attending the class, it is important that you consider this advice carefully.
We do have a limited amount of firearms for rent. 20.00/firearm. This will be available on a first request, first serve basis. You will still be required to bring the appropriate ammunition. I do not recommend purchasing one until you have attended the class. You will get the opportunity to shoot various caliber and size firearms – this will help you decide and make an educated decision in purchasing one for your own use. You can borrow another person’s firearm for the class. When transporting a firearm without a CPL, you must keep it unloaded and separate from ammunition. (Example: firearm in the trunk, ammunition in the back seat.)
We will be taking breaks throughout the day. You can bring snacks,we will provide water bottles. You can bring a sack lunch or step out to one of the local fast food restaurant’s to pick up a lunch – you will have ample time.
We are looking forward to spending a day with you, equipping you to be safe and educated about home protection, firearms and Michigan law. This class is very interactive and full of valuable information! This is also the NRA course required by Michigan law to carry a concealed firearm. Upon completion and receiving a “passing grade”, you will receive a certification and instructions needed to obtain your CPL.
